steve_stonearrowIn this week’s episode we can listen to the talk “A Native American View on the Rooted People”, delivered by Steve Stonearrow at the Biodynamic Association Conference in Santa Fe, Saturday, November 19, 2016. “Native Americans believe that all living things have Spirits. In this teaching, we will seek to understand their relationship to us. Each plant’s unique Spirit helps us to learn more about the world as a whole.”

Steve Stonearrow is a spiritual leader within the Lakota ceremonial tradition. He is an example of what it means to walk in a sacred way within our quickly-changing society, carrying forward the cultural teachings and spiritual wisdom od the “Lakhól wichóh’an”, or the Lakota way of life. With his deep knowledge of healing and herbal medicine, Steve travels the country leading ceremonies and speaking about the many aspects of indigenous history, lifestyle and spirituality.

Erica Ohliger is the founder of Ancient Healings and The Mother Earth Restoration Trust. She is a certified Reiki Master/Teacher, TBA practitioner, and Reverend (Inner Faith Ministry).

Convinced that the ancestral presence on the planet and its continuity with the life originating (pre-ancient wisdom) principles represents a possible route for finding solutions to restoring the natural balance in the world, Nelson Caraballo is devoted to contributing to the resurgence of original thought in the mind set of modern day societies. He was the Director of Fundación Ciencia, Arte y Cultura – FUNDARCULTURA – based in Medellín, Colombia and has spent the last fifteen years working under the guidance of traditional authorities from the pueblos of La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Today, through The Mother Earth Restoration Trust, he continues to be in function of Spiritual Authority to help in restoring environmental, social and cultural balance on our beloved planet Earth.

Eugenia Bone is a long time food writer, author of five books, among others, “Mycophilia: Revelations From the Weird World of  Mushrooms” – recently she became the co-president of the New York Mycological Society-, and “The Kitchen Ecosystem”, expaining how to cook fresh, preserve, use the preserves, and use the waste stream of foods to make a range of dishes that can be integrated in countless ways. She is also a Italian cook, mushroom hunter, master canner, and all-around bloated pleasure seeker. Her stories have appeared in newspapers and magazine across the country, from The New York Times magazine to The National Lampoon, in Saveur, Food & Wine, Gourmet, Fine Cooking, among many others.

The Brain of Eden

an interview with Tony Wright

Tony WrightTony Wright is a consciousness researcher who studied horticulture and plant biochemistry at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. He is the co-author – with Graham Gynn – of “Return to the Brain of Eden”. Graham Gynn is an agricultural zoologist, educator, and researcher who has appeared on the BBC. Both authors live in Cornwall, England.

Tony speaks with Joanna about: changes in diet and perception; a experiment in sleep deprivation; the original state of rapture and joy; the brain as a binocular lens of consciousness; three types of noetic treatments; forest consciousness; the role of plant biochemistry in human brain expansion; the experiential beginnings of religious traditions; the socio-cultural effects of the left brain dysfunction.

Returning the Gift

an interview with Robin W. Kimmerer

Robin KimmererDr. Kimmerer is a mother, scientist, writer and Distinguished Teaching Professor of Environmental Biology at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York and the founding Director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment whose mission is to create programs which draw on the wisdom of both indigenous and scientific knowledge for our shared goals of sustainability. Her research interests include the role of traditional ecological knowledge in ecological restoration and building resilience for climate change. In collaboration with tribal partners, she and her students have an active research program in the ecology and restoration of plants of cultural significance to Native people. She is active in efforts to broaden access to environmental science training for Native students, and to introduce the benefits of traditional ecological knowledge to the scientific community, in a way that respects and protects indigenous knowledge.

Robin is an enrolled member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi.  Her writings include “Gathering Moss” which incorporates both traditional indigenous knowledge and scientific perspectives and was awarded the prestigious John Burroughs Medal for Nature Writing in 2005. Her second book is “Braiding Sweetgrass: renewing reciprocity with the good green earth” on the subject of living in reciprocity with the land.

Robin Kimmerer speaks with Joanna about: the teachings of plants; transcending boundaries and healing with story; ecological reciprocity; engendering gratitude; learning resilience from the land; learning from our Great Mother; the union of scientific and indigenous ways of knowing; the most important things that we can do.

Pam Montgomery is the originator of Green Terrestrial Herbal Products of Vermont and was one of the founding members of the Northeast Herbal Association where she served as their president for four years. For a decade, Pam was on the Executive Council of the Board of Directors of United Plant Savers, an organization dedicated to preservation of our native medicinal plants. Pam has been organizing the Green Nations Gathering for nineteen years and has presented the Spirit Healing Conference and the Healing With Flowers Conference. She teaches workshops internationally on herbal medicine, Plant Spirit Healing, and spiritual ecology.  Pam is the author of “Plant Spirit Healing; A Guide to Working with Plant Consciousness” and “Partner Earth; A Spiritual Ecology”, and a contributing author in “Planting the Future”.
